Leg Stretching Exercises – Just Do Some Walking!

You have a job that requires you to spend long hours sitting behind a desk. You certainly cannot properly stretch your legs that way. Sure, you get a lunch break, but by the time you wait in line at the local deli for a sandwich, and then actually get to eat the sandwich, your break is over.

Stretching your legs is important, as it improves circulation, and will help to keep you in shape. So, when you have free time on the weekend, the key to stretching your legs is to do a little walking.

If you agree with the idea that walking is a good way to stretch your legs but you just have no idea about where and for how long you should walk. Here's some ideas.

If you live near a park, that is a great place to start walking. Now, don’t begin with walking for miles on end, as you actually could get caught up in doing so, because you and your legs will pay for it later. A good idea is to start small, and maybe walk a half-mile in the beginning.

If you live in a residential area, a good idea is just to walk a couple of blocks from home, or even just around the block for a quick way to stretch your legs. Stretching your legs could also be as simple as taking a short walk down the street. It all really depends on your stamina level and your current level of physical fitness.

In addition to walking, there are a couple of exercises you can do in the event that the weather doesn’t allow for a proper walk. Lay down on the floor, place your legs in a “V” position, and gently extend you arms to touch your ankles or, if you are especially flexible, your toes. You can also do this standing up as a variation on this exercise.

The importance of stretching your legs cannot be emphasized enough, because if you so not, that can lead to poor circulation, or even clots, as you get older. Stretching your legs has a variety of benefits, including helping with things like arthritis.

So, the next time you find yourself sitting behind your desk, think about the next time you will have an opportunity to properly stretch your legs, and start planning how to do so. Your legs will certainly thank you for it.
