Home Made Exercise Equipment Ideas
With the modern conveniences and lack of physical activity in our lives, many people are looking for ways to stay fit these days. Unfortunately, with busy schedules and tight budgets, it's not practical for many of us to make it to the gym or buy expensive exercise equipment.
This is why a lot of people are getting and staying fit with the use of home made exercise equipment. You'd be surprised what you probably have lying around the house that can be used for exercising. Many things that you don't already have can be purchased very inexpensively. Let's take a look at some simple ideas to make your own home made exercise equipment.
Resistance Exercises
There are many items you have at home or can easily obtain at your local hardware store that can be turned into resistance type home made exercise equipment. A simple rope and pulley system can be used for a number of different exercises. Just mount the pulley and run a rope through it. As you're pulling on one side of it, the other arm can be used to provide resistance.
You can also attach some kind of weight to one end of the rope and use it for push downs or pull downs. Springs and rubber tubing are also great for resistance type exercises. Infomercials on television offer different types of resistance exercise equipment made from rubber band type material. These exercises can be accomplished for a fraction of the price by simply picking up a similar material at the local hardware store.
Pipe and Wood Exercise Equipment
Pipe and other plumbing supplies can also be used to create home made exercise equipment. With little effort, pipes can be rigged up to the ceiling to make an effective pull up bar. Pipes can also be used to make dumbbells and other weight training equipment.
If you have a little woodworking ability and some extra wood lying around, there are a number of useful pieces of exercise equipment you could make. Many people have been able to make homemade wooden squat racks, as well as multi-gym units that they can incorporate the rope and pulley systems into.
Also, instead of spending a thousand dollars on a fancy stair stepper, why not use some of that extra wood to build steps of your own. This could be as simple as a box to step up onto, or you could build it with a couple of different levels.
Almost anything you can think of can be turned into home made exercise equipment. In addition to these other ideas, sandbags, cement blocks, and even bags filled with heavy books can be used for weight training purposes.
As you can see, it's possible to train just as hard and get the same results as anyone else, at a fraction of the cost of expensive equipment and gym memberships. All you need is a little imagination and creativity.
