Pros And Cons Of Home Gyms
You want to get in shape so you're torn about going to the local gym to sign up for a membership or whether or not to start your own home gym. There are pros and cons to both decisions. You should weigh these heavily before you make a decision. You have to first gauge your motivation level, your budget, the distance of your local gym, your schedule and your fitness goals. Once you get a grasp on the ups and downs of both fitness avenues, you should be able to make an informed decision on which one would be the best fit for you.
Pros Of Going To A Gym
The pros of going to a gym are that you get to work out in an atmosphere that promotes motivation. You are working out around other like minded people. Also, all the equipment and everything you could ever want is provided for you. You can come and go as often as you please and many gyms have all kinds of extras, such as saunas, whirlpools, and more. Going to the gym can be a great fitness avenue for both weekend warriors and competitive bodybuilders alike, as there are so many ways to work out that it all depends on what your fitness goals are.
The Cons Of Going To A Gym
The cons are that you are likely to spend a lot of money on a membership. Also, you have to get the motivation to actually go. Many people sign up for gyms only to find that they hardly go. You might also find your local gym crowded, which means you may have to wait to use the machines or free weights you're wanting to use. You also must abide by the hours of the gym as to when you can work out; that is if the gym isn't a twenty four hour gym.
Home Gyms: Pros
The pros of a home gym is that you can work out whenever you want to, you never have to wait to use a machine, there is no drive time, you can work out while you watch TV or you can listen to the radio at full blast (something you typically can't do at a normal gym because you'll annoy the other customers), and you only have to spend a little money initially on the home gym equipment rather than the loads of money you'd spend on a gym membership.
The Cons Of A Home Gym
Home gyms do have their cons, however. You must get motivated yourself. Many home gym machines and free weight racks become clothes hangers and useless pieces of art in many homes because they go unused. You don't have people around you working out like you do in a normal gym. Also, you are limited to the equipment you have; which is difficult if your goal is to compete in bodybuilding. You won't have the selection of machines and free weights you do in a normal gym. Also, you won't have all those extras, such as saunas, unless you splurge and buy your own.
So there are pros and cons to either choice. Whether or not a home gym is right for you depends on your needs and goals, and the same goes for joining a gym. Make a list of what's important to you and then see which decision would best fit your needs.
