Fitness and Exercising – Benefits of Sweating

Many people try their best to not show signs of perspiration. On our clothes it leaves unsightly wet marks and even stains. It generally has a smell that is distinct to itself. However, as unpleasant as sweat is, it is vital to maintaining good health.

The fluids that we consume are utilized for a variety of functions. The fluids aid in the transportation of necessary elements to vital organs and different parts of the body. Such as, sugar and sodium. The fluids add lubrication to the joints, helping them to move easily. Another reason proper fluid intake is vital is because it helps in controlling the internal temperature.

The internal body temperature is regulated through sweating. As the body temperature elevates, it is necessary to lower it. This is where sweat comes in. If the temperature is not regulated back to a normal range there is the possibility of heat exhaustion and even a stroke. On the opposite end, if we are too cold we get the chills. This is the way our body lets us know there is something that is not right.

Basically, our body needs to be consistent in most aspects, any major fluctuation throws the body out of order, and in turn we then begin with signs or symptoms of a problem. There are specific chemical reactions that our body needs to have take place and it needs to be done in a small range. The compounds within the body need to be produced and utilize the appropriate amounts in order for the body to work appropriately. The internal temperature play a major role in this process.

Sweating is not only a part of homeostasis, but it is also the main factor in controlling temperature. As our activity levels increase, such as when exercising the temperature begins to rise. In order to keep the internal temp at a normal level the body will begin to sweat.

When we sweat, the fluids that are already in our body is excreted through the sweat glands. The more a person perspires the harder the body is working to eliminate the excess heat, by trapping it in the fluids and seeping through the skin. This is one of the reasons that before, during and after a workout routine it is vital to keep yourself hydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of sugar free and caffeine free drinks.

There are other ways you can cool your body temperature down. Such as moving into a cooler room. Outside exposure can aid in lowering the temperature. However, the most effective way to cool your body down without the risk of heat stroke is to allow your body to sweat. To do the be sure you are hydrated properly throughout your entire warm-up and workout routine. The more vigorous of a routine you are going to be doing should be taken into consideration when you are trying to aid your body in regulating your temperature.

Without sweat glands we would have a difficult time trying to lower our body temperature. One alternative we might have is jumping into a bath tub full of ice cubes. If that doesn’t seem too appealing, you could always roll around in the mud like pigs do! How silly would you look rolling around in mud? Unsightly and smelly sweat seems a little more appealing now!
