Weight Training and Cycling Performance

If you were to mention weight training to the average individual, you would get a variety of responses as to what they think weight training is all about. Some of those responses could include bodybuilding, huge muscles, steroids, people who are narcissistic, etc.

However, even though some of these associations may be true, weight training is more than adding body mass or displaying huge muscles. Weight training is a critical exercise program that can not only add to one’s endurance, but strengthen their skeletal system as well.

Therefore, weight training can be a critical component of one's conditioning program regardless of what sport they made be involved in. This can be especially true when conducting weight training and cycling performance together. This is because the combination of weight training and cycling performance can strengthen the whole body. This can specifically be enhanced through the building of the muscles of the arms and the shoulders.

The Value of Cycling
The sport of cycling is a tremendous exercise regimen for those individuals who wish to keep their body in excellent physical condition. This is because cycling builds the strength of the lower body. This occurs as the cyclist continues to pedal their bike which uses the muscles of the entire leg. In addition, the ligaments and tendons are exercised which helps maintains their health.

In addition, a good cycling program utilizes various degrees of resistance. This resistance is seen as bicyclists will climb steep grades which in turn add to the building of the lower leg muscle strength.

Also, the value of cycling is realized through a great cardiovascular workout. This is due to the fact that the heart rate beats at a certain increased level which in turn strengthens the heart and helps to strengthen the respiratory system as well.

The Value of Weight Training and Cycling Performance Together

However, it is important to realize that cycling alone does not address other parts of the human body. Those other parts of the human body include the upper part of the body which does not often receive attention through the efforts of the cycling program. Therefore, it is important that weight training and cycling performance be combined together to strengthen the entire body.

This strengthening of the upper body can be done through a number of exercise methods. Those specific exercises can be bench presses which helped to develop the chest muscles. Or arm curls which help to strengthen the biceps. Or the military press which helps to strengthen the muscles of the shoulders.

Each of these exercises should be conducted with the appropriate amount of weight. The weight should be enough to provide resistance which will help to strengthen the muscles of the upper body. In addition, the exercises should be done a number of times per set. The number of times the exercise is conducted is call repetitions and the repetitions make up a set.

When weight training and cycling performance are combined together the cyclist will not only realize tremendous lower body strength, but upper body strength as well. This combination of strengthening exercises will enhance the cycling experience.
