While bodybuilding as a sport culminates in competitions and world championships, the profit in the career rests in photography. Winning world titles will land any female bodybuilder sponsorships, but those sponsorships insist on photo shoots, websites, magazine covers and videos. Like most athletes, bodybuilders earn the bulk of their income from these endorsements; the actual participation in the sport is secondary, serving as a mere means to a more lucrative end.

Female bodybuilding pictures are used everywhere, to promote the sport, the equipment, the products and the training. However, photography opportunities should not be considered selling out; many female bodybuilding pictures are used to further the sport, and to help amateurs learn proper technique, physique and critique.

These pictures are often staged, and the women are oiled, flexed and showing off every muscle and every cut. Female bodybuilding pictures can also be instructional in nature. Some will illustrate various muscle groups, while others will serve as examples for specific exercises. These photographs are far from modeling shots; the bodybuilders are usually in the midst of an exercise, and are rarely flattering. However, these female bodybuilding pictures are the essence of the next generation of bodybuilders. While more glamorous pictures will bring hype to the media, instructional photographs help younger bodybuilders to hone their techniques and increase their fitness and strengths.

There are many magazines and websites dedicated to teaching the sport of female bodybuilding, and female bodybuilding pictures are essential to this education. Many websites will even include videos to illustrate various poses and lifts in motion, going where photographs cannot. In the end, many amateur bodybuilders will not know a fellow athlete; female bodybuilding is not exactly the most prominent of sports. But with female bodybuilding pictures, hopeful champions can at least get a start on their own by demystifying the gym and growing to love free weights and technical prowess. And maybe one day they will earn the right to participate in their own sponsored photo shoot, becoming the next role models for the next generation.
